Welcome to Spring Term 1 in Class 10

Here you will find lots of information about our class and what we have been learning.



Our new topic this term is ‘The Lost Penguin’ where we will be involved in a narrative immersion based around the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. We will be enjoying lots of activities including  finding out about penguins, listening to stories about lost toys, learning songs about penguins, finding out about animals and their habitats, making boats and investigating floating and sinking, making lost posters and writing postcards from the South Pole ( Please look at our topic web below.)

Shhh!!!! Please don’t read this story to your child. It’s a secret!


Early Years Foundation Stage

In Reception, we follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) which is divided in to 7 areas of learning. All areas of learning are interconnected and implemented through carefully planned, purposeful play based around the children's interests.

In Reception we learn through a range of teacher directed and child-initiated activities which take place both inside and outside the classroom. We focus on building positive relationships with the children where the children feel supported and learn to be strong and independent learners.


Our Busy Week!


Every morning, the children will have a healthy snack. This is a lovely social opportunity for the children. Snack can be paid for either electronically on-line or by placing the money in an envelope which can be put in the yellow box in reception.  Your child will also be provided with a free afternoon snack.


We have one P.E. session a week on Friday morning. Your child will need shorts,a t-shirt and trainers, please could you put these in the yellow sports bag. Ear rings will need to be removed before school. Please can you make sure all your child's belongings are clearly named.






Your child will bring home a library book to share with you. Later in the term your child will also bring home an Oxford Reading Tree book to read with you. Your child will read twice a week at school and a note will be put into their reading diary to inform you of their reading days. We strongly recommend that you read with your child for ten minutes a day. Your child will also bring home a phonics book with sounds to practise.


Planning, Preparation and Assessment Time

On Friday mornings, Mrs Crowe will be teaching in Class 10 while I have Planning, Preparation and Assessment time. The children will have been introduced to Mrs Crowe before this session.
